Child receiving vaccination

❓ What are vaccines, and why are they important?

A vaccine is a safe and effective way to help your child's body build protection against certain serious infections. It works by training your immune system to recognize and fight harmful germs—like viruses or bacteria—without actually making you sick.

It is one of the safest and most effective ways to develop immunity against serious infections like measles, polio, diphtheria, hepatitis, and more.

💡

Did you know? Vaccines have saved millions of lives globally and significantly reduced the burden of childhood diseases.

❓ What vaccines does my child need?

According to the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children should receive a series of vaccines at specific ages, starting from birth.

🧷 Common vaccines include:

  • BCG (Tuberculosis)
  • OPV/IPV (Polio)
  • Pentavalent or DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Rotavirus
  • Pneumococcal
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella (Chickenpox)
  • Influenza
  • Typhoid
  • HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) – for adolescents

➡️ The IAP also includes optional but beneficial vaccines like Meningococcal, Hepatitis A, and others.

We provide a customized vaccine schedule for every child based on IAP guidelines.

❓ Are vaccines safe for my child?

  • Yes, vaccines undergo rigorous testing for safety and effectiveness.
  • Mild side effects like fever or swelling at the injection site are common and usually subside within a day or two.
  • We monitor every child closely after vaccination for any adverse reactions.
  • ❓ What if my child misses a vaccine?

Don't worry —you need not restart the entire schedule! According to the IAP, if your child has missed one or more vaccine doses, they can and should still be vaccinated. We can plan a catch-up vaccination schedule tailored to your child's age and previous vaccination status.

❓ Is it necessary to take optional vaccines?

Optional vaccines are not mandatory but highly recommended by IAP and AAP to offer added protection against preventable diseases. At Dr. Navya's Children Clinic, we counsel parents on the benefits and safety of each vaccine so you can make an informed decision.
